Types of Magnesium

I have found this information in the literature and it may be helpful if you use Magnesium as a supplement. It looks like Magnesium glycinate may be the best. Some other forms do cause diarrhea.
Types of Magnesium and Their Benefits
1. Magnesium citrate: Can cause Diarrhea
2. Magnesium oxide: Poor Absorption. Often used for heartburn, indigestion, & constipation.
3. Magnesium chloride: Includes chlorine. Good absorption. Used to treat heartburn, constipation, low magnesium.
4. Magnesium lactate: Easily Absorbed. Utilized as a food additive. More gentle on GI Tract.
5. Magnesium malate: Good Absorption. More gentle on the digestive system. Used as a slow release. Sour taste. Less of a laxative effect. Often used to treat FIBROMYALGIA.
6. Magnesium taurate: Contains Taurine. Regulates Blood Sugar. May reduce blood pressure.
7. Magnesium L-threonate: Easily Absorbed. “Most effective type for increasing magnesium concentrations in brain cells.” Used to manage certain brain disorders, such as depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and age-related memory loss.
8. Magnesium sulfate: Common name is Epsom Salt. Unpleasant taste. Dangerous if used too often. Used in bath water to sooth sore muscles.
9. Magnesium glycinate: Easily Absorbed. Improves sleep, calms. Used to treat inflammatory conditions. Reduction of Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Insomnia.
a. Also known as magnesium diglycinate and magnesium bisglycinate.
b. Evidence that it does not cause the laxative effects of other types of magnesium.
10. Magnesium Orotate: Easily Absorbed. Does not have the strong laxative effects of other forms. Heart & blood vessel tissue energy production pathways. Expensive.
