Tymlos vs. Evenity

Posted by eliz4142 @eliz4142, Mar 8 2:31pm

Hi all. I experienced a compression fracture at L1 about 4 weeks ago and this is how I learned I have osteoporosis. I'm "only" 57 and, after having a lot of blood work done, there is no explanation for my bone loss. I was adopted, so I don't have a lot of information about my genetics. Seems it's just an unusual (though not unheard of) situation. Since I've experienced a fracture already, my doctor has advised me that I need an anabolic agent. I'm trying to decide between 24 months of daily Tymlos or 12 monthly injections of Evenity. The doc assures me both are really effective. Evenity seems to have some serious (though unlikely) side effects, but definitely seems like a more palatable regimen. Any thoughts or experiences that might help me decide would be appreciated! Thank you!!

If I understand your charts and presentation the Evenity is the best one for the spine and that is where my lowest scores are and the roost of all my pain and numbness. l5S1 is categorized severe degeneration. Thank you for your information.

Tymlos is great for the spine too. I got a 20% gain, going from severe to borderline in the spine, 9% gain in hip.

For what it's worth, I took Evenity with no side effects except for soreness at the injection site for a day or two.

I am about to start Evenity and I am scared to death. Some of the side effects people post are just horrific!

I was scared as well, but supplements and exercise alone did not work. After 12 months of Evenity injections, I’ve gone from severe osteoporosis to borderline, with a 32% gain in my spine. I experienced minimal side effects: headache for a few days after the first few injections, fatigue and swelling near the injection site for a couple days.

@ajones007 that is an amazing gain. How did your hip and femur neck do?

Such a hard decision for me too. I finally read the actual - studies and decided since I have No heart issues I would gowith Evenity. The single injection for 12 months is better for me. Good luck. I’ve been reading feedback from the Evenity Facebook group. Check it out and see if it interests you.

You did so well on it.
What were your numbers to start with? How’s your hip and femur?
Thank you for sharing.

And no, I'm not getting paid for any of the work I have done and I don't make money on YouTube. Those are not my ads. I'm just giving back to the community that helped me. 🙂

I have been taking Prolia since late November 2023. No side effects so far. I did get a blood test done at the one month mark and saw a drop in calcium from about 9.5 to 8.9, so I upped my calcium intake and extra 200mg. Rechecked a month ago and now at 9.3. I also saw a drop in my urine calcium by ~ 100mg/24 hours, which was good and expected. Because I have hypercalciuria, I am ensuring consistent calcium intake to maintain stable blood calcium. Prolia makes it so calcium is not as readily available from the bones. Hypocalcemia has some ready bad effects on the body.
