TURPS
What has been your experience with the TURPS procedure?
Is it major surgery?
It’s considered standard urologic surgery, usually requiring:
1–2 days in the hospital?
A temporary catheter afterward?
Several weeks for full recovery?
Possible side effects
Retrograde ejaculation (most common)?
Temporary bleeding?
Urinary urgency or irritation during healing?
Rarely, erectile dysfunction?

howardrlewis You have it right. One night in hospital and several weeks discomfort, though I later got a bladder infection that was painful. Got over that the rest was easy. Erectile dysfunction?...I wouldn't know because I was dysfunctional prior to procedure because of my antidepressant.
@howardrlewis there are many treatment options for BPH -- TURP being one of them. Others include: Greenlight, Aquablation, HoLEP, Rezum and others that may have better outcomes and fewer side effects. If you are only being offered TURP by your Urologist you may need to look for another doctor, even be willing to travel to receive the best care. 1 ReactionHad TURP yesterday. Less than an hour for the surgery. December 2024 I had HoLEP. My stream never improved and I had 11 UTI’s since the HoLEP. I went home after surgery yesterday with a catheter. It will be taken out Friday morning. Had bladder spasms last night because I forgot to take the meds to prevent them. Supposed to be good to go except for heavy lifting in 2 weeks. No excessive bleeding,
