Tumor in the saccrum
Has anyone ever had a lesion found by having an MRI and than was told you need to have PET ti find out what it is? Should I be worried?

linda2025, don't worry until you find out what it is. Spinal hemangiomas are the most common type of sacral tumor and they are benign. You wouldn't want to waste worry on a lipoma--a fat tumor. Don't delay the testing though so that you can put it out of your mind.
Worry is a wonderful tool when it can motivate you to do something, otherwise it has negative consequences for comfort and health.
Thank you for your imput. My PET scan is scheduled for Thursday. My Spine specialist wanted to give me injections but decided not to until after the PET scan states if this cancer it’s a new ball game.
@linda2025
I’m sure it is scary to wait. I can empathize with you (I had scary ct scan/bloodwork and delay in diagnosis and treatment is agonizing for you and your family).
What symptoms did you have before getting your MRI? What type of specialist(s) are you working with now? Did you read your MRI report in detail and know where the lesion is, how big it is, and what the radiologist noted in their impression?
Thank you for your concern , I was experiencing severe lower back pain that would not get confortable in bed no what I tried, and when I went to the bathroom I could barely get off the throne I was in so much pain, but once o got up and was able to walk around in the house I was a little better but I could forget about sleeping in bed. I also have burning pain running down both legs. This came on out of the clear blue, the lesion is inside my sacrum 8cm. I’m doing ok I have not had the pain since until this morning. I have the pet scan on Thursday.
My bone scan was negative, I’m not in pain I just have burning in my upper thighs and under my arm pits, this was MRI scan lumbar spine without the use of intravenous contrast.
FINDINGS
Numbering: For spinal numbering purposes there are 5 lumbar-type vertebral bodies with the caudal most fully formed disc space designated as L5-S1. 1.8 cm L3 vertebral body lesion with heterogeneous/predominantly fluid signal. No definitive trabeculation on corresponding CT abdomen/pelvis with contrast 2/3/2025.
Vertebral body heights are maintained. Normal alignment. Normal bone marrow signal for age. No destructive lesions identified. No soft tissue signal abnormalities. Conus medullaris terminates at T12-L1. Unremarkable cauda equina nerve roots.
Degenerative changes
T12-L1: No significant abnormality. No significant foraminal stenosis.
L1-L2: Symmetric disc bulge and thick ligamenta flava cause moderate/severe spinal canal stenosis. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing due to disc bulge and facet arthropathy.
L2-L3: Symmetric disc bulge and thick ligamenta flava cause severe spinal canal stenosis. Moderate right and mild left foraminal stenosis due to disc bulge and facet arthropathy.
L3-L4:Symmetric disc bulge and thick ligamenta flava cause severe spinal canal stenosis. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing due to disc bulge and facet arthropathy.
L4-L5: Symmetric disc bulge and thick ligamenta flava cause moderate/severe spinal canal stenosis. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing due to disc bulge and facet arthropathy.
L5-S1: Symmetric disc bulge and thick ligamenta flava cause mild spinal canal narrowing. Mild right foraminal narrowing due to disc bulge and facet arthropathy.
Partially characterized visualized portions of the posterior and lower abdomen are unremarkable.
any opinions? Is there anything I should be worried about?
Hi Linda25,
the area of concern are where you have severe spinal stenosis the discs at L1-5. The bulging discs and the ligament are placing unwanted pressure on the nerves of the spinal canal. This can damage the nerves enough to cause paralysis. There are many minimally invasive procedures that can alleviate the pressure.

Thank you for letting me know me know, I’m seeing a spine specialist, she didn’t want to do anything until she saw the bone scan results, like I said I’m not in pain , just burning feeling in both legs and mostly at night, it seems funny to me that I got severe back pain out of no where, lasted two night , I could not get comfortable in bed no matter what I tried , my blood pressure had always been normal on my medications but since that night they have not been, I stay around 150 to 155 with normal diastolic , pcp has raised my losartan and added amlodipine, HCTz but my blood pressure still has not come down so I’m notvsure what to do anymore.
