TULSA-PRO Whole gland treatment: Erection recovery expectations?

Posted by btmason70 @btmason70, May 19, 2025

I had TULSA-PRO whole gland treatment almost 5 weeks ago. The procedure was a success so far. I do not have incontinence issues at all and at this point I look cancer free. However, I have not seen any movement back towards a baseline erection. Can anyone who has undergone TULSA-PRO give me some type of sort of expectation here? Thanks.

Well Good Afternoon All, I had about 75% ablation at the Busch Center in Alpharetta Georgia on 02 17 2026. Dr. Busch is a much experienced dedicated ( I happened to be TULSA number 555 for the Good Doctor) Committed perfectionist. Nice guy, advanced sense of humor, entire staff are the kind of people one would enjoy having as neighbors. While I am here, Thank You All Again.

I'm 72. Previously led an active lifestyle and intend to restart Tai Chi and rebuilding my now beat up frame in seven more days. I said six months recovery time and then a gentle return to normal and I intend to do just that.

I had a Aortic Valve replacement about one year prior to TULSA and University Alabama Birmingham Medical saved my bacon. Well, maybe I shouldn't say that as the the new valve is a little porker valve. Thank you Little Pig whom Generously Sacrificed in order that I may survive.

Post TULSA I had the usual bleeding, sloughing, ( far more than I expected) , and my scrotum swelled about like a cantaloup and now I walk like a bow legged Cowboy but am working on getting that straightened out.
I guess my days as a Track sprinter have concluded?

My last PSA test score before TULSA was 29. I thought then I needed to make my final plans. More recently that score was well under one.
The plan is to do another PSA on the 13th of this month. Burn incense, chant, Pray, any help is much appreciated.

Would I do this again? Absolutely.

I have been silent for six months and for a Fellow that is Loquacious by nature thats hard.

If any have questions please ask.

Best Regards to All and Those You Love

@david1153 my husband is 73. He is scheduled for the TULSA later in September. From what I understand, even though the cancer is only on one side, they will ablate the whole gland. Is that normal? Will it cause any problems? He was told he will have the cath in for 2 weeks. Hopefully, he will retain continence. Will that take time, or when the cath comes out, should he have continence. Thanks for any help you can give.

In my experience (huge prostate - 165cc in a 5'9, 140lb, 77 y.o. body) I had the cath in longer. Taping it and the penis to my body so there wasn't a lot of movement at the tip of the penis helped a lot. Wore depends. Mine was in for a month (unusual but due to severe BPH and size). Not that big a deal. Sat on a donut pillow driving etc to take pressure off of the perineum area.

Full ablation: Since there are small cancer seeds all over the prostate, addressing only the tumor is seen as less effective in the long term. Insurance. No difference in felt outcome but increased protection.

After removal I experienced blood in the urine and emissions for a few weeks before everything returned to normal. I experienced unintended leakage when coughing, leaning over and Kegel exercises help restrengthen muscles and that is almost gone now. Procedure done two months ago.

Not sure if this is helpful to you, but I had a 65-70% ablation, not whole gland, 7 months ago, and my erections were normal as soon as the catheter was removed, however my orgasms are dry.

@jneylon I had the Procedure Aug 13th and the catheter for 8 days. I had zero pain after the procedure and no incontinence after the catheter was removed. I had only two lesions, one of them was cancer the other negative. I have not regained erections yet at this writing. I had normal erections prior to the procedure. I’m told it can take multiple months sometimes. I’m 78 years old and would recommend this procedure to anyone. I will tell you that Medicare Advantage Insurance Companies will not approve the procedure. I had to go back to original Medicare. This procedure has been done in the States for 7 years. Europe has been doing the procedure much longer. My doctor told me in the seven years they have only two cases where the cancer reoccurred.

Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately, my husband can’t get the Tulsa Pro. He was all set to get
it, he was supposed to see the doctor last Friday, and the procedure was
scheduled for September 28.
Every time he talked to the nurse, he asked if she was sure he could get it
since he has a watchman with coils in his heart. She kept saying yes. She
called last Monday to go over everything, and my husband again asked about
the coils. She finally heard him. She said she would check with the doctor.
She called back and said he can’t get it because he would be in the MRI for
too long. We were so disappointed.
Now he is seeing a doctor at Fox Chase Cancer Center next week. He does
HIFU and Nanoknife. We are hoping he can get one of those. Just wish he
could get the Tulsa Pro because I think it is better.

@stans555 I've been using Rapaflo generic before and after my Tulsa procedure, so at least in my case the dry orgasm started post Tulsa, probably indicating that Tulsa not Rapaflo is the culprit. Thanks.
