Tricyclic antidepressant

I’ve failed on most ssri’ s and snri’s due to nausea. My dr wants me to try desipramine. Has anyone had luck with this?

Hi, I’m on a tricyclic antidepressant but not the one that you’re taking, it goes by the name Amitriptyline, I’ve been using it on and off for 10 years. I also tried using so many different medications that are more current ssri’s but they made me sick so it wasn’t an option. In my opinion the medication is not the best choice but it does help me somewhat with anxiety along with Ativan to help me cope. It’s hard to find what works best but you keep trying until you get it right, I hope it works for you and in case it doesn’t there’s certainly something else that you can try, good wishes.

I had desipramine and imipramine (tricyclics) a long time ago. Zoned me out. Couldn't tolerate it. 30 years no meds up and down depression (moderate). Recent event, needed ssri.
Can't tell if good results are zoloft or placebo, but renewing Rx.
Is it live, or is it memorex?

In my late twenties I was put on Surmontil/Trimipramine. It was an absolute god-send! It allowed me to sleep which was the biggest benefit. But if you don't have something to force you to wake up you may sleep too much. They still sell it but primarily as a sleep aid like trazadone. Surmontil works better than traz for sleep so I have no idea why traz is widely used but not surmontil. I think you can only get surmontil in canada now.
It worked well for me for depression/anxiety and sleep disorder.

It is a great antidepression med and I think you should try it for tolerability.
START SLOW.

Thank you! I started on 10 mg Tuesday. Are you on it?

Not right now but I have been and the side effects are really minimal. Right now I am on 10 mg Prozac which works for me. I have to say that to try to be on the smallest dose possible of whatever anti depressant works for you makes it sustainable over time because of the limited side effects, if you can do that. Start slow and stay as low as you can: once you feel its effect the slightest bit, consider not increasing the dose. Hope it works and you feel some relief soon. I can feel anti depressants as soon as 5 days but I am very keyed in to my body.
