Trial removal of catheter
I've just read my discharge papers after prostatectomy.
It says I'm booked in 2 weeks for a TROC.
Google says that's a *Trial* Removal Of Catheter.
Why Trial? What does that mean?
Are they likely to put it back - and under what circumstances?
Great. Now I get to have nightmares for 2 weeks.

Also, not so sure about that bicarb soda thing. I know it’s a raging controversy about alkalinizing the body to fight cancer, etc. but the human body’s homeostatic mechanisms usually keep the system at a pH of 7 give or take so will the urine become alkaline if you drink a basic solution? Perhaps, perhaps not.
People are always encouraged to drink cranberry juice to acidify the urine to combat UTIs so maybe there’s something there after all. Couldn’t hurt to try but all my experiences with catheters have given me maybe ONE very slightly burning urination the very first time after removal and that’s it.
I'll give it a shot. I asked the urology nurse & she said:
Yes, Ural can be helpful for when the catheter comes out initially. Doesn’t need to be taken on-going.
It can just take the edge off for when you start passing urine.
A sachet prior to the catheter being removed and a couple more through the day should be fine.
Sounds good to me. Can't wait to get this thing out.
