Treatment for Psoriasis. I found only Cortizone,, ceam containing 5%
After hip surgery, I developed Psoriasis. Treating for two years with Cortizone, which helps the itching but does not cure. No sign of remission. Warm air increases itching. I read where it is a
disease of the immune system. I am a 91-year-old male confined to a wheelchair.

There are more effective strengths of creams for
psoriasis and itchy skin conditions. If you don’t have a chance to get examined by a skin specialist perhaps a friend or caregiver could take a picture or set up a telemedicine visit with a dermatologist. Stronger
medications need a physician diagnosis and prescription. Do you have a doctor you can work with?

1 ReactionThank you for your reply. It is encouraging to find this
condition is treatable. I do have a doctor who is
a GP so I believe I should ask him to recommend a good dermatologist. Comments on the internet seem to indicate Psoriasis is not treatable. Some advertised medications show about 35% effective. Thanks once again for the information. I will keep you updated on the Mayo site.

1 ReactionI have had psoriasis on my scalp and bottom of my feet off and on for over 30 years. My original dermatologist prescribed a cream- i believe it was calcipotrene(not sure of spelling) it worked the best of anything. I had a doctor about 15 years ago that checked my Vitamin D levels. I was extremely low. I notice a connection between low Vitamin D and flares of psoriasis. I now try to remember to take Vit. d3 pills regularly. Also look up anti inflammatory diet. It is not curable, but can be controlled. If you are able a dermatology visit would be helpful. Check out the Dr. Andrew Weil website
