Travel following prostate surgery

Posted by jwoy @jwoy, Jun 8, 2023

My husband and I are traveling by car to Mayo Rochester for his prostatectomy, it's about 2.5 days driving. We will stay in Rochester for 7-10 days, post op. Is that too much car riding after surgery? (I do the driving) Should I put him on a plane instead?

Who can say exactly what but I had surgery in Baltimore and while I had my catheter still inserted, we stayed in Annapolis. After the catheter was removed, my wife drove us to SC over six hundred miles. It felt so good having had the surgery and then having that bag attached to my leg, we could have driven another day easily. The best part was that I found out that I could sit without peeing my pad. In fact, I had the same pad on all that day. And another interesting sidelight, I stood at the urinal like a big boy and with my pants half way down, did my business. The sun was shinning and it was one of the best days of my life. Go for it

Ten years later and I still stand at the urinal happy that it still works. I am one of them that the faucet still leaks a bit and I have to use a pad but so what, I am enjoying my grandchildren and can't wait for them to give me greatgrandchildren.
