Transrectal Ultrasound Guided Prostate Biopsy
Looking at google for information is useless. No one not even the doctors talk to you about it until the day of. Weeks of stress, worry and anxiety. 12 holes in the prostate and 12 holes also in the rectal wall? Is anyone else type 2 diabetic being told not to eat anything for over 12 hours, can this hurt my blood sugar numbers?

I've had two biopsies - April, 2023 and April, 2024. Both were what the urologist described as "MRI Fusion, Ultrasound Guided" biopsies. My understanding is that the technology overlays the real-time ultrasound image on the MRI images that were done earlier so that the doc can more accurately target the lesions for sampling.
Both of my procedures were transrectal and done under anesthetic. Walked out feeling fine less than an hour after they took me to the OR. No pain. Felt a little "pressure" in my rectum for two or three days. Blood in stool the first post-procedure BM, then no more. A little blood in urine for about a week, then no more. Blood in semen - bright red at first (rather unsettling) then fading to brown, tan. Cleared after I had ejaculated maybe 10 times - I'm not telling how long that took 😉
They asked me not to eat or drink after midnight the night before each procedure (both scheduled early in the morning). That was the only prep.
