@poloriverfalls We aren't medical providers here on Mayo Clinic Connect so we cannot answer this question. Are these medications all prescribed by your psychiatrist? Do you feel that these medications are working for you?

We share our own lived experiences on Mayo Clinic Connect so that we can support one another. We sometimes provide recommendations on what to ask your physician, whether or not it might be wise to get another medical opinion from a different physician, and information we can provide from other web-based sources that are valid and reliable.

Do you have questions we can help you with to ask your prescribing physician?

Hi,
I'm sorry you are having problems and have to take so many medications. Randy is right. Start with a Google search for them and also see what side effects they may have. Take what you find out to your doctor and ask his advice about them. I used to do this all the time for my husband when he had lung cancer and he had a new medication. It really helped us understand everything and it gave the doctor a little extra knowledge too.
I wish you the best.

I am not a doctor. I have seen many over the years. The drugs you listed are familiar.
Tramadol is an old antidepressant, used a lot now for helping with sleep
Cymbalta is an SNRI- serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor- used for depression and sometimes physical pain.
Buspar (Buspirone)-used for anxiety
Gabapentin- used for neuropathy as well as off label for pain and anxiety and mood stabilizationg
Lorazepam- a benzodiazepine, used for anxiety

I am familiar with Abilify, but have never taken it.
Ask your psychiatrist, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or even your Primary Care Physician to explain them. Also, Cleveland Clinic and Web MD and many others have information regarding these medications and what they are used for (they are used off label as well).
Hang in there.

Sorry, Tramadol is used for pain. It used to be used a lot as they thought it was not addictive, however, it is addictive. I mistakenly thought you wrote Trazadone.

Avoid Google and talk to your PCP or psychiatrist.
Just a suggestion. Google does not have a medical degree and everyone reacts differently to the same medications.
Good luck to you.

@diverdown1 I believe you are thinking of Trazodone that is the older atypical antidepressant. Prescribing medical providers prescribe this medication to help with sleep.

Mayo Clinic: Trazodone:

Tramadol is not an antidepressant. According to Mayo Clinic, Tramadol is prescribe for moderate to severe pain and is the class of opioid analgesics.

Yes, if you look at the post underneath my first post, I caught that mistake. Thanks though as they are very different drugs.
