Total pancreatectomy with islet cell transplant: Can't gain weight

Posted by kevin14 @kevin14, Feb 7 12:01am

Hello Everyone,
10 years ago I had a total Pancreatectomy with splenectomy with inlet cell transplant. Unfortunately insulin cells injected to my liver did not take. So I am a type 3 C diabetic. Currently after 10 years from my surgery I still have not been able to gain any weight. I take my enzymes with food and eat quite a bit.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

are you taking the correct amount of Enzymes?... this is determined by your ideal weight. EX: per Creon site 180# person calls for Lipase enzymes per meal max is 200,000. This is the approx. amount I take. Myself also being diabetic, the insulin keeps the glucose numbers down as it should. Excess glucose you will gain weight which is not the way to do it. I am T1D and my A1C is always less then 6...typically low 5's. If your A1C is comfortably low like mine, gaining weight is difficult unless you go to the gym and put on muscle. If you are already muscular ? then don't expect to gain weight, just be happy with that. calculating max. enzyme amount.
Your W(weight) divide by 2.2 = Y multiple by 2500

@kevin14, I hope you saw the helpful post from @venture. Have you worked with your doctor to adjust the enzyme intake that is right for you?
