Total knee replacement

I have a pain in my femur, which I got in 1974 and now I need total knee replacement. Has anyone gone through this before.

Are you asking about the or that and the femur pain?

I’m getting my knee replacement in May. My concern is the pin in my femur. How will they do that?

I think that you should make an appointment with your surgeon and ask for a better explanation of the surgery so that you can feel more comfortable.

I just need to know if anyone has gone through this surgery and what their experience was. Because I know of someone who had knee replacement, and when they tried to take the pin out, he got an infection they couldn’t get the pin out so I would like to hear of others.

Do you have a metal plate with pins in your femur? Is your concern that your doctor will need to remove the pins in your femur in order to do the knee replacement surgery?

I can't respond to most of these notifications as I had partial knee replacements and did not have the femur complications described in them... However, I do want to suggest that WOMEN should be aware that for many years knee replacements were done based on research with males -- and many did not go well because women walk differently than men because of their wider pelves.
I imagine that this situation is far less common today, but I would caution women to ask about their doctor's procedures. I had half replacements by a wonderful physician who pioneered in developing different procedures for women. That was in 2008. I have perfect knees today and will always be grateful to him..

So you already have some metal in your femur? I don't know where it is or why it is there. It could have been used to repair a broken femur - or something else?

Knee replacement doctors who work on knees that have already had surgery with implants are specialists. I think you need to find a surgeon who does "revision" surgery, with "revision" being the key word. These Drs will create a surgical plan for replacing a knee based on any prostheses or other appliances already in place.

Hope that helps.
