Tortuous colon and gastroparesis: Partial sigmoidectomy?

Posted by queenie52 @queenie52, 2 days ago

I have been diagnosed with a tortuous colon, gastroparesis and 2 recent bouts of diverticulitis in my sigmoid colon. I have had mild constipation, gas and bloating throughout my life but have been able to deal with it with dietary control for most of my life. Now my GI Nurse Practitioner has recommended a consult with a colorectal surgeon to possibly remove the section of my sigmoid that keeps getting infected. I’ve had 3 full colonoscopies in the past and an incomplete colonoscopy in November 2025 followed up 6 weeks later with a virtual CT colonoscopy that was normal. A recent CT scan showed mild acute diverticulitis in my sigmoid colon. I just completed a course of antibiotics and am doing much better. My question is has anyone undergone a partial sigmoidectomy and how was the recovery? Have you had any reoccurrence of diverticulitis? I realize my issues are pretty low key but at 74 years old I’m more aware of the options in treatment to try and keep my health intact.

queenie52 @queenie52, I have gastroparesis and colonic inertia. They want to remove my entire colon to fix the chronic constipation. I take Miralax everyday and that seems to be helping. So, I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you are feeling okay and all it takes is some antibiotics go that direction. I'm 46 and I am putting off the surgery for as long as I can. Heck, the gastroparesis is the worst of it all and they can't fix that.
