Torn Ligaments

Posted by Leonard @jakedduck1, Aug 5, 2023

I tore a number of ligaments in both hands and numerous fingers three months ago. My right hand is still quite sensitive and one finger is still swollen. I was just curious if anybody else had this problem and how long the healing process took my doctor said if I wasn’t better in two months, she would send me to the hand surgeon, but I haven’t talk to my doctor and it’s been three months. any advice appreciated.
Take care,
Jake.

@jakedduck1 Umm "...my doctor said if I wasn’t better in two months, she would send me to the hand surgeon..."
Maybe it is time to see that hand surgeon?

I do know from experience (not necessarily a good one - a story for a different time) that there is a "sweet spot" for getting those small ligaments treated and healed before it is too late. Please call Monday and get that referral. Hand (often plastic) surgeons are wizards at keeping our hands working.

Hi @jakedduck1 - Did you have a chance to see @sueinmn's suggestion? Because you've already talked with your provider and they were willing to refer you on to the hand specialist, it is a safe way to go.

@jakedduck1 - were you able to contact your provider to ask for the referral? Do you have any bruising? Have any of the fingers recovered at all?

Yes, I saw all messages. I did call my doctor but no referral. She gave me a prescription to take for 1 week. I have one finger that is better but still swollen after 3 months and painful if I do certain things. My others fingers seem healed as do my hands. Just the ones finger giving me grief.

Not knowing your specifics of the hand issue, I had PRP for tendonitis in my thigh with great success. Not sure if it would be appropriate for your situation but worth talking to an orthopedic who performs it. No invasive surgery, no down time.

Has anyone tried PRP for a plantar plate tear of ligaments/tendons? The Dr says the only remedy is major surgery. I can't afford the down time. Any other ideas? Thanks so much!

I would try cold laser treatments for about 7 weeks. I had a medial meniscus tear which was compounded by the 16 yr ago Full ACL rupture. Don’t let anyone tell u u can’t heal it. That is what our bodies do. I am 72. My medial tear is nearly healed. About 4 months in. Get strong with whatever workout ur able to do. You will need strong help from your other parts. Yes you will have a few backward days but do not let it get to you. Supplements like collagen peptides help.
