Tkr in October-items/supplies/equipment recommendations

Hi! I’m having a Tkr on my right knee in October. I’m trying to get everything I need before hand so I’m not stuck needing anything.

What items can you think of that you didn’t know you needed until after the surgery and wish you would have had it?

I’m making a list of items (ice machine with compression, walker, cane (not sure what type I’m supposed to get), bars for shower, non slip mats).

Thanks in advance for your help! I want to be prepared especially since I’m having my surgery one day after I get back from vacation.

I concur with getting the Nice machine. Best $400 I ever spent. I will submit receipt to BCBS to see if I get reimbursed.
I bought a recliner that reclined far enough to get my knee above my heart. Getting swelling and inflammation down asap is key to a quick recovery in my opinion. I'm less than 4 weeks out from TKR, no pain and walking with a cane.
Get signed up for PT ahead of time so you will have a better chance of getting the times and dates that work best for you and your caregiver. I go 3 times a week.

@steve161 If the OP can find it and afford a rental, the NICE machine avoids all of this. It acts like a refrigerator to cool the water so one never has to add or remove ice. My surgeon provided me with a two rental of one six years ago after my left hip replacement and it was terrific.

More recently, almost exactly a year ago, I had my right knee replaced. This time my surgeon provided me with a two week rental of the Game Ready machine. It worked equally well but did require ice.

Getting a NICE machine for recovery is like renting a Rolls Royce to drive around.

@steveinarizona as you already know I'm getting my right hip on December 28th. How long did you rent the machine for the hip? It seems very pricey but also very convenient.

Mine was a two week rental. The rental company said I could extend it for a small fee but I didn't need more and I suspect that the "small fee" was actually a fairly large number.
