Ok, do you do anything repetitive for your work? Like typing or factory type repetitive tasks over and over again for long periods of time?

Have you tried ice or heat? Brace might help, Real Time helps me, it is an over the counter natural remedy. How about stretches do you do any of those? If not, look online for hand stretches. You could tell your Dr. and they could get you physical therapy. Buy a putty ball or stress ball and use that. Paraffin wax is wonderful if you want to get a machine, it really helped me when I had carpal tunnel and ulnar neuropathy. At times, I use Ibuprofen or Tylenol if it is really bad pain. I have also found I need to slow down and relax and not do too much all at one time with my hands. Hope this helps!

What sort of a brace is good

You could try a brace for carpal tunnel- they usually have a metal plate in them and it goes over your wrist and forearm. CVS and other drug stores have them and grocery store sometimes have them too. I usually wore mine at night and not as much during the day. When pain got worse, I had to wear it more and more, as it hurt to bend my wrist.

Physical Therapists at times make braces also, that was only 1 time that I had a brace made custom made for me. That was awhile back. Majority of the braces you can buy yourself. I would recommend seeing a Hand Specialist, as the Dr. could recommend a brace too for you. Do your research and get recommendations from friends/family/neighbors/co-workers. I had an excellent surgeon in Texas and never had any problems. However, in the waiting room, I met patients who had other Dr's who messed up in the operating room and their Dr. sent them to my Dr. Be very careful who you choose to do your hand surgery. Carpal tunnel surgery is tricky and mine was done right at the wrist, not in the palm of the hand. The patients I met all had big scars on the palms of their hands. I had a teeny tiny incision made in the wrist, that you can barely see.
