Time From Needle Biopsy to MRI With Invasive Lobular?

Posted by jodyinpetaluma @jodyinpetaluma, Sep 6, 2022

How long can I expect to wait for an MRI after a needle biopsy has confirmed I have Invasive Lobular Carcinoma?
It has been two weeks, and there is a BB size bump.

Not sure I understand your question. Are you being told you have to wait certain length of time for MRI after a biopsy? If so did they give you a reason.

When I was first diagnosed, my MRI was scheduled within days of confirmed cancer after a biopsy.

The dr wanted MRI first, but my insurance company would not approve MRI until I had a confirmed diagnosis.

Hi Jody. Depending on the pre approval process with your insurance company and with your medical facility, you should expect to have an MRI with 1-3 weeks.

From the date of my diagnosis, I waited about two weeks until I had my MRI.

Once I had the MRI, my treatment plan was then confirmed and I was on my way.

You’ll be okay. If no one reaches out to you soon, it’s never to soon to make an inquiry. You’ll have to stay proactive throughout your treatment. ♥️

Hi Jody. I was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma on 4-15-19. Next Oncologist sit-down 4-24, Port placement 5-7 with MRI 5-8 and CT/Bone Scans 5-12 or thereabout. Funny how I can remember, not. To me it seemed like forever but once Insurance gave approval things started moving faster (maybe too fast it seemed at the time). Could just be the darned insurance thing. Hang in there as sometimes it's insurance and sometimes it's scheduling.

@jodyinpetaluma like @lisakinpa said ‘ You’ll have to stay proactive throughout your treatment. ♥️’. This is so important. Sometimes we have to be somewhat for forceful in getting appointments etc. Hang in there. Keep asking questions until you understand the answer and are satisfied with them for you. 💪🏼❤️

I started biopsies in July of 2021. The results of each biopsy took a few days to receive. I live in Seattle where U of W Medicine, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Fred Hutch all collaborate. My wait times were fairly short most times. I had cancer in both breasts, so I had a double mastectomy in late October that was successful in removing all the known cancer. Hope this helps. Blessings to you, on this journey!

Thank you,
Kaiser in my area has a broken MRI machine. It is going on week 2.
They also are not worried enough to send me to another facility that has a working machine.
Needle biopsy did show Invasive Lobular.
How can a breast clinic have a broken MRI machine for, who knows how long. No one has said how long it has been down.
I felt this bump at the end of July.
I am hoping for a double mastectomy for good measure.
I hope you are well~stay strong

Never be afraid to pick up the phone and call. You’ll find that sometimes, for whatever reason, things get misplaced or accidentally put on the back burner.

I have also found that if you have all the information or notes you need at hand during the time of the call and are respectful to those on the other end, you’ll always get an answer. 👍🏻♥️👍🏻

I agree with @lisakinpa , I would be picking up the phone and just asking (respectfully of course) what my next step is and how I might get that expedited. Sometimes you have to call the insurance company directly. If this clinic cannot get things going due to equipment issues, you can request to be sent elsewhere. This is another thing you could address directly with your insurance; they will have a list of providers.
I understand you have a confirmed diagnosis, do you have an oncologist yet?

My MRI was quick, but I waited 7 weeks for surgery. Now I am waiting for my Oncotype before I know the next steps. I was diagnosed on June 8th and my surgery was on August 9th. Waiting is hard but they assured me it was okay. I also have ILC Pleomorphic type level 3.
