Tighness and pressure post robotic lobectomy: Will this pass?
I am 11 weeks post upper left lobe removal (lobectomy). Cancer free and very grateful. I would like to know if anyone else experienced tightness and pressure (constant) below breast area . I am not taking any meds, walking and doing light weights but the discomfort is always there. Heat and lying down makes it better. Dr, surgeon and physio are saying its normal and will pass. Anyone had that experience. Just needing a bit of reassurance. Thanks.

Hello lilacrose 75, I did not have surgery. I had 5 SBRT radiation treatments and I am 3 years post treatment.
Due to treatments, I have three broken ribs that were in line of treatment. I have been dealing with this for a year now, and don't know if they will ever heal properly. Nevertheless I have had pain that comes and goes. It begins just under the breast and around to my back. At first when it began it felt hard, like wood, difficult to explain. As time has gone by, it has gotten worse. The pain in the breast feels like thousands of hot fine pins and then wraps around to my back where it feels like I am being stabbed by a very hot poker. Very painful and I let out screams when it happens. I just had an x-ray a couple of days ago, to check on the broken ribs and have not yet gotten the results, yet. Since it is in the direct line of treatment, I believe it is a combination of scar tissue, nerve pain, and spasams maybe? I do have to say, it is very painful at a 10. Yet I also associate it with movement. It started out as you described and stayed that way for two years....My radioligist said, it is going to take patience and time. Time has made things worse, as these symptoms did not start right away, but I trust and respect him, so we will see. I do hope and pray that yours goes away.

Hi, I had robotic surgery early April. I am as well experiencing numbness, discomfort under my breast area. I will as well have pain once in a while that catches me off guard, it comes and goes quickly though.
It is my understanding that muscles and nerves take a while to regenerate.
I’m only lifting half a pail of water, maybe 5 lbs one time a day. I can feel it when I’m overdoing and have had to learn to listen and stop. Hard to do when I’d rather just get all the weeds pulled for example!
I had my right middle lobe removed, I understand what you are saying, It felt odd at times, unbalanced as you said, I think for me it was from the rest of my lobes trying to adjust and compensate for the missing lobe.
Yes, a bit scary and changes your life, getting use to a new normal as they say.
I am so grateful I do not need any chemotherapy etc…. Thankfully only scans often.
I think we will both see improvements as time goes on 😊
Hugs 🤗

1 ReactionHad my robot surgery late April & still experience tightness, some numbness & discomfort under the breast area. Still can’t lift heavy items. 10 percent of my lung was removed & feel this causes me to feel unbalanced ant times. Everyone keeps saying this will continue for a while. It’s a bit scary & trying to comes to terms with my new way of life.
@jerri0 Very wecome💕
@nannybb
No but I will bring this up to my doctor's next month.
Thank you!
@jerri0 Have you ever been put on any medication? Like the shot for DIPNECH?

My lobectomy was in August of 2023. I am going through what you are going through but still have the pressure and trying to find the right bra. I wear my sports bra on weekends but during the week days I still wear my regular bra (which is uncomfortable) . I also walk every day and do a stretch class twice a week. Taking no meds and feel blessed my cancer was caught in the early stage. Glad your doing well!!
3yrs out after right lower lobectomy and still have tightness and Pressure below breast area. Having a hard time finding the right bra. I do walk and ride my bike for exercise. Oncologist said this is normal. Uncomfortable but am feeling blessed that I am doing great so far.
@cameron02492 , I’m glad you are doing better now. I’m a strong advocate for people making their own decisions about treatment, even when that means holding off. Hoping that you don’t have to face that decision.
I had my surgery on March 17. I went home with a new chest tube (#2) in place on 3/22 and had it in til I was readmitted with a bowel obstruction for another 5 days. I know the end result is great but I don't think I could do this again in if it came back.
