Thyroid Meds for 9 years with no thyroid problem

Hi. My name is Cindy and I am new to this group. My question is, I was put on thyroid medication for 9 years, just to learn last year that the facility I was in was diagnosing and medicating patients who did not have thyroid problems. Can taking these meds for all these years have an effect on my health now?

Hi Cindy, I think this might be a discussion better suited for the Endocrine System group. What problem were you suspected of having and what medication did you take? How are you today?

Hi and thank you so much for replying. My doctor has prescribed me Premarin, for hot flashes, which do not touch my overheating issues. I can't seem to regulate my temperature and I'm always hot, to put it mildly. I have lost over 50% of my hair in patches over the last month. The overheating issues have gone on for over 6 years and I'm so frustrated and do not know what to ask my doctor to do next. I'm thinking it's a thyroid issue. She said my t3 and t4 and TSH levels were fine, however there's got to be some explanation to it. Menopause doesn't cause you to never cool down and making even the smallest tasks impossible, or cause your hair to fall out. I know those are the basic tests that primary doctors do but I would like to ask her to take this to the next level and I don't know what tests to ask her to do next , in order for her to check into this further. I truly appreciate your reply and look forward to hearing back from you, with any suggestions. Thank you very much. Cindy

I also posted a question, in regards to a person taking thyroid medication for 9 years, guess you learn that I didn't have a thyroid diagnosis in the first place. I was just wondering if taking those for all those years would have any effect on me now. I ask because I'm having such severe overheating issues for the last 6 years and thought possibly this could have something to do with it.
