Test to diagnosis Gastroparesis

Posted by anitannapa @anitannapa, Oct 11, 2024

Does anyone know what the "standard" meal is for testing if you have Gastroparesis (Delayed Emptying of the Stomach)? It appears the meal that should be given to see how your body is able to digest it within a 4hr period is different depending on where you get it done. That doesn't make sense yet everything I read states this is the most important part of the test for the correct diagnosis. Does anyone know what Mayo or Stanford uses as their meal? Thx!

Thanks! Did she have anything else? It seems eggs are used in the meal and served with white toast, water-4oz and jelly/jam.

When I had my Gastroperisous test I was given scrambled eggs with the xray “dye” in it and 2 toast sandwiches with margarine and jam and a little bit of water. My digestive system is 4 hours behind.

Your test is close to what I believe the "standard" test is supposed to be. From what I can gather the test should be egg whites - 2 scrambled, white toast - 2 slices, jam and water - 4oz. No margarine/butter. The reason no eggs or margarine, the fat content which can delay emptying. And yes, the radiotracer (I believe that is the name) goes in the eggs after being cooked.
Thanks!

I have down the test twice. Once with oatmeal and once with scrambled eggs and white toast.

2 eggs scrambled with toast and tea. my test they stopped at 4 hours. And my stomach was at 48 % I'm in the moderate to severe category. went from 225 lbs. and 38 waist. after a couple years after the gallbladder surgery which caused the medical condition Gastroparesis. At that time I was 98lbs. no cloths I have fit me. constant pain bloating and constipation, which goes back and forth from hard rocks to water in the same movement. I am holding at 138lbs. and 30 waist. with no good outlook no cure no med to fix just deal with it. I am taking 4 different meds for this.
