Teriparatide and Vertigo

Posted by hdeff @hdeff, Mar 26 10:33am

I started teriparatide about a week and a half ago. All was going well until this week. I'm now having pretty severe vertigo that lasts all day and night. For other people that have had this side effect, did anything help, or did it eventually go away? Any info would be great. I've been told to stop taking it for a few days to see if it improves, but that's all.

Vertigo can even be dangerous— more likely to fall, etc. can the dose be lowered or even discontinued/ replaced with something else ?

My pen only delivers the one dose. It took a lot of time to get special coverage for this medication so I don't want to just abandon the treatment. I bought some ginko biloba which is supposed to help, but that can take weeks.

Wishing you better days with the med.

You might want to check your blood pressure to see if it's dropping after injection. When I first started Forteo, I had about 6wks of pretty constant, severe fatigue, which I think was related to lower blood pressure (80s/50s) from the medication. My endo recommended increasing hydration and adding a bit more salt when needed. That approach helped and it took some time (2mo) for my body to adjust. It's good idea to check with your doc to see what they recommend for your specific situation. Hope it's temporary for you, as it was for me.

Unfortunately, it's not that because I had that too. This is definitely vertigo.
