Tenex Anyone?
I'm scheduled for the Tenex procedure to remove damaged tissue from my elbow, so that new tissue will grow to repair it.
Has anyone had this done?

An ortho I was sent to wanted to do this on my hip. I ran away from this provider....finally found an outstanding surgeon for torn gluetus medius. My thought was it would be harder for a good surgeon to repair after this salvage procedure. Just my opinion. More reasons not to do in my case but in general, I would not consider.
He is also my elbow surgeon, and assures me this would not make it harder to repair. I am trying to avoid the down time of yet another surgery as I am just finishing rehab on that shoulder for rotator cuff repair. This seems to offer me the best chance of relief - we also discussed PRP, but it would take longer to get results and there are some meds I would need to stop before plasma extraction.
I have a track record of success with this team of docs, so I trust his advice and have decided to try it.
@sueinmn, I'd like to invite @jeburkezoo who had this procedure done to remove scar tissue with their TKR. @jeburkezoo, how are you doing now that some time has past from your Tenex procedure?
I'd also like to invite @mrnomad and @cadunkin who both also talked about their experiences with the tenex procedure to share their experiences and if it helped their situations.
@sueinmn - you've talked extensively about having a great care team and have built trust through open dialogue with that team, what would the biggest concerns or potential drawback be from the Tenex procedure in their opinion?
I achieved virtually no increase in ROM after this procedure in 2023 which followed my TKR surgery in 2022. I am limited to 90-92 degrees ROM. Walking down a flight of stairs is awkward bec the knee does not bend adequately. Walking up stairs is easy. Hiking uphill is easy, going downhill results in pain level 10 pretty quickly and after a hike it takes about 2-3 days for the inflammation to subside. Ibuprofen helps very little. In 2025 I tried shock wave therapy which accomplished nothing. The best remedy (for me) has been to keep my weight down. As soon as I add a few lbs, pain increases. As soon as the 4-5lbs comes back off, less pain. I can ride my 10 speed bike after loosening the knee for a mile or so by resting my heel on the pedal. Once it loosens, I can rest my toes on the pedal & bike properly.
I'm not an MD but anyone prone to the buildup of scar tissue should think twice. I asked my latest knee surgeon if she would perform a second arthroscopic surgery but she refused. For 3 weeks after the arthroscopic surgery I achieved 120 deg of ROM but the scar tissue came back. She feared that if we tried arthro again, the next time the scar tissue formed, it could reduce ROM to 45 degrees.
Nevertheless, I work out daily at a local gym which includes a leg press. I've resigned myself to "grin & bear it". My congratulations to others who have been more successful but I will continue using cortisone on my non TKR knee.
