Tapering Mirtazapine

Posted by drucilla222 @drucilla222, 2 days ago

I have recently come off Lorazepam and since February am trying to come off Mirtazapine. I'm currently down to taking 7mg a day. Throughout the process Ive been really struggling with feelings of derealization, as though my world has become unreal, I have burning and sweating. I'm told that this last stage of reducing Mirtazapine can be the hardest. The reason for coming off these drugs is because they were beginning to have no effect and it was a choice of coming off them or increasong the dose. With the help of my doctor I chose to come off them. Does anyone have tips on how to get through this.

@drucilla222, congrats on getting off Lorazepam, that’s not an easy thing to do, I see that you’re on the verge of quitting Mirtazapine or otherwise increasing your dose. I was taking Mirtazapine for a short time, about two months, I had a bad experience with this medication, it claimed to help with anxiety and sleep problems but I had the opposite effect, I couldn’t sleep well and when I did, lots of nightmares and anxiety came back, I wanted to stop them after a few weeks but the doctor told me to continue and the symptoms will eventually go away, he was wrong and I wanted to stop them asap, I took 7 mg. daily and then I went on every other day for a week and then every two days until I stopped taking them, happily I had no problems after that, the only thing that Mirtazapine helped me with was my appetite but absolutely nothing else.
