Taking Evenity during heart valve treatment
I am having an angiogram the first week of January to evaluate a mitral valve that is regurgitating. Cardiologists have been watching this leaky valve for years. Now they want to repair or replace the mitral valve. I am due to have my 7th Evenity shot on 12/31. I am worried about all of the days during the procedures and days of recovery in the hospital. If I am not getting the endocrinologist's recommendation of 1200mg. of calcium per day, will I start getting osteonecrosis and the other side effects of Evenity? I want to pause the Evenity, but the endocrinologist does not agree. I don't want calcium being pulled from my teeth or bones throughout this ordeal.

I would at the very least discuss this matter with your cardiologists.

2 ReactionsI have sent the cardiologist and the endocrinologist messages through their systems. They have not responded. It is going to be hard getting answers with two four day holidays. I would not have started the Evenity if I had known about this upcoming surgery. It is very worrisome!

1 Reaction@nwhiker Maybe in this case you could call the cardiologist's office.
The cardiologist does not see any reason for stopping the Evenity. I now found out that I need surgery to repair or replace my mitral valve. I am worried about not getting enough calcium during the weeks of recovery in the hospital or rehab. I think that the side effects of low calcium could become serious. Having angiogram next week, so very worried as I am due to get Evenity shot tomorrow. I have a lot of muscle weakness, just not sure if that is from being less active or Evenity. I wish I had never started it. Endocrinologist said I could get an infusion of Reclast so I can maintain the gains in my bone mass. Sounds like it has a lot of side effects.
