Unfortunately, I didn’t know I had os peroneum in both feet and I started doing ballet bar exercise routines. I loved them and did them too much (daily – I’m an overachiever ) and wound up with peroneal tendinitis in both feet and multiple tendon tears.. I had surgery on my right foot involving a removal of the shattered os peroneum and tendon transfer. Unfortunately, it has not gone well. I sought a second opinion with a surgeon and a physiatrist at Johns Hopkins and they recommended shockwave therapy to both feet. So to answer your question, I don’t know whether my case is unusual, but I had a difficult time with surgery. That’s not to say that yours won’t up easier. My surgery was a bit complicated.
Thank you for responding. I had the surgery to repair my tendons 4 weeks ago, and things are going well. I hope to be able start putting weight on my foot after my doctor’s appointment this week. Wishing you well!

1 ReactionI had surgery to repair a torn peroneal brevis in my right ankle as a result of a fall on ice about 15 years ago. Surgery went well and I haven't had any problems since. I must admit I am not coordinated on crutches and it is a non-weight bearing post op procedure with the shoe boot. Fortunately, I hobbled around until I got a knee scooter. This was fantastic. It allowed me to get out and do things again because I was mobile!
Good luck. The hardest part is waiting for the healing.

1 ReactionI too have had a complete rupture of my peroneal brevis tendon from severely rolling my ankle on the side of a hole in the ground. Conservative treatment has not helped at all. I've tried it and I discovered there are only two surgeries that can address this. One. Where is there is a side-to-side attachment to the other tendon but this tendon is not in the best shape. I believe I have an excellent surgeon but I am afraid with two metals screws going into my foot. Has anyone had this type of surgery?
I had ruptures of both peroneal tendons as a result of arthritis and my high-arched foot turning outward. I had been walking on the outside of my foot for many years, resulting in significant ankle pain and a pronounced limp. On July 24 I had surgery to repair the tendons and also a procedure called a calcaneal osteotomy to align my heel and secure it with two screws. I had to be non-weight-bearing for eight weeks which was long and boring, but I wasn’t in as much pain as I was before the surgery. I’m doing great now—back to all my usual activities and trying to walk more every day. I’m very grateful that there was a way to repair the tendon damage. There is a FB group for peroneal tendon repair folks. People share their stories and I have found it to be very helpful. I wish you all the best!!
