Has anyone had surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in the ankle? Was it successful?

Which tendon? My posterior tibialis tendon ruptured. Waited 24 years to have it fixed… by that time it had to be fused. Hind foot fusion. Two long screws and a washer. Muscle in calf had also retracted so that was lengthened and a repair to the ligament on the outside of my ankle. Mine was very successful!!

Wow! That sounds like quite a surgery! I’m glad it was successful. I ruptured my peroneal longus tendon in August of last year. I will have surgery to repair it on February 3.

Thank you! It did go well and I actually had a tear in the peroneal brevis that was also repaired. Now, just have to get through the 12- week recuperation.

Are you total non-weight bearing?

@valandsheri Yes, for the first 4 weeks. No fun!

Mine was 7 1/2 weeks in a cast, non-weight bearing. I had a knee scooter with a bell! Saved me. It was tough going being down for the count, so that gave me mobility. Yay!

Wow! That’s a long time to go non-weight bearing! I used a knee scooter last year when I had a different tendon repaired, and it gave me terrible back and leg spasms. This time I am using a variety of equipment - knee scooter, walker, wheelchair, and crutches. It is going much better.
