Surgery for recurrent diverticulitis

I'm having recurring diverticulitis.
First episode in May 2023. Treated with Metronidalzol and Cephalexin. Went away. No issues.

REturned in September 2024, hospitalized with absesses. IV antibiotics in hospital 24 hours and then oral antibiotics Augmentin) at home.

In December returned. No absesses. Treated with oral antibiotics (Augmentinn) at home.

In January returned. No absesses. Very mild pain. Treated with oral antibiotics at home. Presently still some odd feelings.-tightness.

I didn't have severe pain with any episode. I was tender to touch and had CT scan each time. I have been dieting and feel constipation has caused the diverticulitis episodes. Trying to figure out magic formula eating enough fiber so I don't become constipated.

I was referred to surgeon. He wants to surgically remove my entire Sigmoid Colon!

Has anyone had their Sigmoid Colon removed? Has anyone been treated with antibiotics for recurring episodes?

Oh yea, ditto with traveling...plus it's harder for me to get enough water during travel.

I am living same story and have not found magic formula to be able to do what my GI doc said which is to not get constipated and to be albe to "have the BM such that I feel that I have emptied after the movement". I have trulance daily which does get me going but still a struggle and have not figured it out. after cearing the infection of diverticulitis or after a colonoscopy, the jam up tends to build over time and then gets bad enough to casue the infection to come back so the diverticula is now diverticulitis and need treatment. I was sent for surgery eval but found broken issues with pelvic floor so now going for 2 weeks to retrain the brain and pelvic floor to do better so constipation problems might be helped. Miralax, colace, trulance, whats a boy to do when the solution is yet to be found after so so long..... I hope Mayo can help and feel confident they will direct me to the best end... Step by step.. life from Bm to BM... grand aint it...
