suffocating sensation and feeling.
I had a syncope about 3 month ago and hit my head in the back while blacking out.
After this event i went to the hospital to check my head and it was all okay.
A week later after the incident i started experiencing this suffocating feeling to explain more deeply first both when i was awake and insleep i was constantly having breathing issues where i felt there wasnt enough air or oxygen in my lungs and had this craving to breath more deeply but the feeling never went away.
Also i had toi pay attention to my breathing patterns or i would kinda stop breathing entirely.
I have also checked my lungs and heart and there have been no issues with them recenlty.
I have alos had deppresion and anxiety issues in the past but have never expericened panic attacks or things like this that i have mentioned here.
I have also started some anti deppresion meds to see if they would help with the issue but so long they havnt been that much affective in thts matter.
So right now i kinda feel frustrated and burnout and dont know what to do since this issue has affected my daiuly life entirely and doesnt go away for the most part.
If anyone has experiended something similar or knows whats wrong with me i would appreciate it.

Do you think it might be a medication side effect? Can you ask your doc? I have anxiety from many antidepressants and finally have one that doesn’t cause it.
Im sorry you’re are going through this. Different antidepressants take different amounts of time to reach their peak efficacy. Might ask your doc about your specific med. Might me that it just takes a little longer to work or that you require a different dosage
That sounds really stressful. My mom has had chronic sensation of can’t breathe for many years. But, when her oxygen level is checked, it’s fine. Normally, she’d get okay after getting Ativan. She refuses to take anxiety meds. She used to take Vistoril and that helped too. When in the ER she couldn’t lay back because she couldn’t breathe. Same with the dentist. She can’t go be cause she can’t lay back in the chair…says she can’t breathe. She is able to lay back at the hair salon though! That’s the only place. And, in bed.
You might get your lungs checked out though. Just to rule out any lung issues.
Shortness of breath when lying flat is called orthnopnea. Your mom should check her records or ask her doc if she has been evaluated for heart disease, lung disease, and sleep apnea. If shortness of breath when lying down is new, worsening, or accompanied by chest pain, swelling, or fainting, immediate medical evaluation is essential as it may signify heart or lung disease needing treatment.
I only started to take meds after i started experiencing these suffocating sensations.
Its not because of the meds or there side effects.
I did go to a psychiatrist doctor to see if there is any chance that my symptoms are anxiety related and only after that i have started taking these meds to see if it eases the breathings issues.
Right now i have started takingQuetiapine and Paroxetine that my doc prescribed me .
While some of the sensations i had have eased a bit but the main issue has not gone away entirely.
I started experiecning these sensations way before i started taking meds.
I took these meds to see if they can help stop these feeling and shortness of breath.
Funy thing is i never had any of these issues in the past .
All these symptoms and feelings only started after i went to a drugstore to get some meds from there and moments after i blacked out. Few days past and i stared experiencing these feelings.
It was much worse back then to a point that i coudnt sleep for more than 48 hours and i felt i was gonna go insane.
My blood oxegen levels where normal as well .
I went to multiple doctors to check my heart and lungs and both results came back completly healthy with no signs of any illness.
The only thing that comes to my mind that might be causing this issue is the brain but even that i really dont know where to go and only thing i have done is start taking some meds to see if it helps or not which hasnt really.
Thanks for your advice.
I will take into consideration.
I also have a mild pain in my left side of my chest near my heart and it gets worse when i inhale or exhale.
Not sure if the pain and the sensations that im feeling is fully anxiety related or also has something to do with maybe muscoskeleton issues as well.
Also tha pain and feeling goes away mostly when i lay down flat on the ground for a while or go to sleep entirely at night.
You need a thorough evaluation from a Neurologist. It sounds as if the start of your symptoms started with hitting the back of your head. It could be that you have a cervical spine problem that might be affecting your Vagus nerve. I have a similar problem where I feel as if I am suffocating, even though the tests show that I am getting enough oxygen. A sleep study might help as well. Unfortunately, even if you see a Neurologist, you still might not get properly diagnosed. I have experienced this. If you are able to this, I would suggest either going to Mayo Clinic Neurology, or John's Hopkins. Dr. Jon Weingart has successfully diagnosed patients who have seen several other Neurology specialists. Don't let lazy doctors let you suffer. Or tell you it is emotional illness.
