Sudden severe right hip & back pain, unable to straighten up.

Posted by aaronhurts @aaronhurts, Aug 2 4:35am

I was putting on nightclothes after showering and suddenly I was in agony. Right hip and lower back. It’s complicated by the fact that my left hip was replaced over a year ago and has never been good except for the weeks following antibiotics, during which weeks I was walking, biking, running and happy. The doctor says the white cell nuclear test shows no infection in the left hip, but now I am literally crippled with the right hip. I am walking with a crutch, bent over and to the left. If I try to straighten up, agony. And of course the left hip is not right so I am thinking wheelchair. Has the existing arthritis in the right hip suddenly worsened? I can stand on the right hip without pain but I must lean to the left. Yes I have a curved spine and also recently started with a new chiropractor.

It’s important to get evaluated for any new pain, especially if it doesn’t go away. Hope all goes well

I demanded my doctor replace my opposing hip a year after he replaced my first hip. He said he didn’t think I was ready for the hip replacement, but I absolutely was. What I learned is they can’t always see every part even in the MRI I would get that horrible pain where I was locked up in the opposing hip. The MRI showed that there was cushion still. I handed him a check and demanded him to do the surgery. For me, it was the right decision, and my hips live happily ever after. I think chiropractors and snake oil salesman who take your money with promises of relief. Just take your money and a few months after you’re back with the same old pain and you really need a good orthopedic surgeon to talk to. Good luck.

I hear you! Today I am having a better day, but… this is after a week of hell. I used lots of ibuprofen, Tylenol ‘muscle and pain’ (it was on sale & I am trying everything) and CBD rub and oil. I seem to have ‘beat back the Krackon’ this go-round. Kill the pain, keep moving as much as you can, see the doctor to rule out any built-in biological murder going on inside and try to stay positive. I can’t get my hands on any more Amoxicillin or I’d pile that in too as it seemed to help me. Good luck

Sorry to ask,CBD oil helps better than other synthetic medicine?

I had the first hip replacement hoping it would help my back discomfort. It did not. I had the other replacement 4 years later hoping for the same thing. It did not. I have scoliosis and I think its worsened over the years and that is my problem. My curvature is to the right and I think that's why my back hurts on the lower left side. No help for that. Not PT, shots or exercise. When I had my right hip replacement 6 months ago the anesthesiologist couldn't give me an epidural because she hit bone. Luck of the draw I'm afraid.

I'm using Ibuprofen and CBD oil together. So I cannot speak to your question.

I am a 70 yr old , scoliosis, probable arthritis. Having pain down right leg, sometimes thigh but can go down shin. sleeping is ok but getting out of bed is painful until I walk. Do 3 miles every morning with dogs so there is some stop and start. No pain in back. Started PT who initially said it was hip but now thinks it is low back pinching off nerves, have good motion in hips. I Try not to take any meds to mask issues that have been going on for 6 months or more. I will be back with primary to get MRI, of which I have had many through the years. Not sure what is going on but exercise does not seem to help much. Learning to live with pain for now. Ortho or Neuro ? Any suggestions will be helpful.

You need an X-ray

I have scoliosis and degenerative lower back issues. My hips have always easily gone out of joint, but the piriformis stretches have worked well over the past years. But I recently had months of sacriliacitis and, at PT for osteoarthritis in my right big toe, got treatment for that as well. However, it was still painful and I couldn't straighten up most days, even with the multiple adjustments they taught me. I got images and went to my pain doctor. He was more concerned about my mid-back vertebrae, but my issue lower down was misery. He did a pain shot on both sides of the sacriliac and all is so much better. I still have to do the stretches, but mostly I can now sit comfortably on a chair and get up without being bent over. I have added water exercise to try to build muscle in the area and to gain strength in my legs as well.

I like the Orthopedic side of things and the PT with orthopedic experience is great. They seem to know what is connected to what. My pain is the LT in my left fibia area and the PT linked it to the L5, so we worked on that. I do have scoliosis and degenerative back issues that do not normally bother me. I still heat the area midday, used CBD ointment (Happy Salve), and sometimes a cold pack. I cannot take NSAIDs, but sometimes Magnesium helps. Clamshell moves also help. I had an EMG with the neuro and all was normal, but I did get a nerve block from the pain Dr and that has alleviated much of the issue. XRay and MRIs showed nothing, not even arthritis. Avoid any surgery if you can.

I hear you, about “avoid surgery”. That’s for sure. You sound like you are really trying to find a way through the pain. The ‘happy salve’ indeed has its place in my cupboard. NSAID’s are a nasty thing, I can take OTC stuff, Kirkland works but the one I got prescribed is really bad on my gut. I do have ‘mild’ scoliosis also but so far no serious complications with it. The Ontario doctors say amoxicillin is too dangerous for me. They suggest instead Rocuronium. Much safer… for them. If you look up that drug, you will find it stops your breathing. It’s the final drug, to kill you, as part of MAID. You see, I have the right to get a drug to kill myself, but I don’t have a right to a drug that will take away my pain. When they are deliberating who should go to the crazy house, me for having pain that is eliminated with amoxicillin, or rather the doctors who say it’s safer for me to die than to live.
