Success with Qutenza, or not?

Posted by steven120566 @steven120566, Dec 19, 2023

Hi, I have consented to an in office Qutueza treatment. I have severe neuropathic pain. Coming up day after tomorrow. So I tried the OTC capsaicin, just to see if I could handle it? I couldn't. I was SCREAMING in pain, from OTC capsaicin cream, that is only .1% cspsaicin. Trying to wash it off because I assumed I made a big mistake, just made it worse. Really, darn near killed me. The Qutenza is 80x stronger. They prescribed a topical lidocaine anesthhetic from pharmacy that I am supposed to apply an hour before my appt, which I didn't have when I used the otc stuff. Honestly I am scared to death of what that Qutenza is going to do to me, but at the same time, hopeful that it will help in the long run. I'd certainly welcome anybody's experience with Qutenza, and thank you so much in advance!

I had 3 applications of Qutenza. The Lidocaine did help to ease the burn, a very important step. I got 2 1/2 months relief from one application and the other two were about 2 months relief. I am not going to continue. It is too expensive for the relatively short term relief. I still need to use Diclofenac gel, Lyrica and Tramadol for the pain. I guess results are different for each person.

OK had it done. The pre procedure anesthetic worked well, burned a bit, but not unbearable like before. Doctor said id know by Christmas day, at latest,
how effective overall it will be. Fingers crossed!
