subtotal colectomy and gas pain

Posted by baileyway24 @baileyway24, Feb 10 8:58am

I had a subtotal colectomy 2 weeks ago. I thought I was doing great but the past couple days I cannot seam to get the gas pain under control. At first I was going to the bathroom all the time but now I seem to have more constipation and more gas. What do I do? I don’t want to do anything that is going to disturb my healing? Any advice would help!

after my surgery on my small intestine as was advised to take a stool softener like Colace. or a store brand. it helped with the gas and constipation. without bothering the healing process. actually i still use these once in a while now. good luck, d

I was fortunate in that I did not experience pain. I am sorry that all I can add is to drink plenty of water (64oz was what I was told.) also, fiber but think you should check that with M.D. because you have to increase it slowly. I hope you are pain free very soon.
