Sue, yes, some people cannot tolerate Forteo. You gave it a more-than-fair-trial. I wouldn't last a week with nausea alone. And I don't think it's good for us to tolerate side effects, especially when there are other medications. Something else will work for you.
Hi
I am at 5 weeks so I don't know if that's enough time to give it I'm very frustrated. I left my doctor a voicemail today and an email yesterday but have not heard back and now it's the weekend. I don't know if I should wait until Monday and go into his office or just stop tonight
@sue417: howdy! I am in a similar situation, a cancer patient just finished 6 months of PRRT with exhaustion & fatigue. I am eager to live now with less tumor burden!
Unfortunately, DEXA has reported diagnosis of osteoporosis in my Lumbar Spine & Right Hip. Being 80 yr old female I agreed to the Evenity 12 month injections and now into my 3rd month. The fatigue is so tiresome and although it is tolerable I urgently wish I had the energy to enjoy life as before my cancer treatment.
I am interested in how you plan to proceed with treating your osteoporosis diagnosis - now and in the future. I know both of us must want to live fulfilling days and avoid bone fractures. I would appreciate your thoughts, if you will share with me. Best to you… dbamos1945
Hi
I was diagnosed with osteopenia in 2022 when my first fracture occurred in my spine T8. I was on r e c l a s t infusion which in Canada it is called zoledronic acid once a year I had had it for three consecutive years my bone density had come up quite a bit . my report said I was less likely to fracture then I went through radiation in 2024. My spine fractured again in April 2025 my T9 and T10 . they switched me to this daily shot of forteo going on 6 weeks. I advised my physician Friday I want to get off it and I am waiting to hear from him if I do not hear from him Monday at 10:00 I am going into the office because I am not taking this. I need to know what his plan is. I have read lots of posts regarding this drug on this site and others and a lot of women cannot tolerate it I wake up with severe knee pain low back pain and by the afternoon the fatigue and nausea is crazy. I am not spending 24 months like this. My assumption is he will put me back on my once a year infusion. I will get back to you once I see him and let you know. I do not want to stop without him saying okay this is the plan because if I have had some increase I don't want to lose that but I cannot live like this anymore. As you know going through breast cancer is hard enough and dealing with the side effects from treatment from that and then getting put on a drug that makes you feel horrendously worse not what I want.
@sue417: I’m with you… you are taking care of YOU! I am following and waiting to learn what will be your osteoporosis plan in future! Hug…
Hi
I am going back on my zoledrinic acid infusion once a year. I had the option of prolia but I do not want to do that drug.
@sue417: I sympathize with your difficult decision, may your bones get stronger & stable quickly taking Zoledrinic Acid! I haven't found any data that would convince me to volunteer for Prolia. Good health with no medical side effects Sue! dbamos1945
Hi
I had been on zoledronic acid for 3 years and it was working well. If I would not have had to have had radiation I'm sure I still would have been fine because it had increased my bone density greatly in my spine. I am very frustrated with my endocrinologist because they will not give me an appointment it's just been emails back and forth and I asked for an appointment to get the results of my last bone density this year a couple months ago and they have not responded back. I asked for a follow-up because I like to know what's going on with my body. So my last email I said could I have a phone consult so now I'm waiting to hear back from that. The healthcare system in Canada has gone to crap it was never like this it's ridiculous you either have to talk to a nurse practitioner or a secretary you never get to see a doctor when it comes to a specialist unless it's your yearly checkup.
