foe radiation therapy, I was wondering if anyone had experience with these and wondering about their effects / long term effects. (brain tumor, grade 2)

Hello @dkubacki and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Have you been given a choice between the two or just doing some preliminary research of your own?

I found some additional information that you may find helpful as you explore the differences in the two treatment options.

also I was only offered traditional xray radiation (MRT) therapy but read a bit that photon therapy seems to have similar outcome but less long term side effects and cognitive deficits. so, mostly doing my own research.

I am undergoing photon treatment for inoperable low-grade brainstem glioma. I'm nervous about photon because it doesn't stop within the tumor, but they need to cover as much of it as possible with the goal of 'killing' it. My tumor is below my hippocampus and I am taking Memantine to help mitigate any cognitive damage should there be any.
