Got 2 shots of Firmagon in the stomach and will be on that for 3 years. Also xytiga and 5 mg prednisone for 2 years.
Radiation starts in September. Good times 🙂

Was there a typo here? Testosterone is not needed after radiation. They specifically put people on ADT which eliminates testosterone while they’re recovering from radiation.

Combining ADT with radiation may enhance treatment effectiveness by interfering with DNA repair mechanisms and inducing a more effective cell kill within the radiated area.

Not a typo, I understand what they do with ADT and radiation. I know they purposely put people on ADT before and after radiation for a long time and that is the standard.

After radiation though prostate cancer cells do not necessarily die until they divide and only if they divide unsuccessfully. According to the Duke study the cells need testosterone to divide. Was just discussing what the study says or may imply.

We are hoping to transition to Orgovox but local GU Onc is concerned insurance won’t approve - what is this about? Seeing the charge for Firmagon injection/insusioncenter visit is $6k+ each time, is Orgovix pill rhat pricey? I do know the Nubeqa is nuttyhigh price.

Is that $6K only related to the Firmagon injection? When I had Eligard injected, the full bill was $3K, with $2K related to the Eligard. (The other $1K was for various bloodwork.)

Lucky you on your Eligard shots. I believe I can safely say that mine hurt more than any shot I've ever had. Not for the first 30 seconds or so, but then a warming, then hot, nerve pain that radiated. The site is still raised, slightly, two weeks later. But, you know... whatever, right? Small potatoes. Peace.

Yes, just the Firmagon injection alone, given at the infusion center. The Nubeqa is additional, so about 20k/month being charged for ADT + ARPI.

Hang in there my Brother. ( gleason 9 4+5 ,finished 28 radiation sessions and I'm 15 months into ADT.) Here for you.

You have my sympathy. They put the Lupron shot in the hip, I had them for seven years every six months and it never hurt at all unless I pressed right on the spot where they gave it.

Where Did they put that Eligard shot? They ran out of Lupron a few years ago, and I had to have Eligard shots instead. Didn’t hurt anymore than Len but they put it right next to my hip.

It seems the Eligard shot can be put in spots that really hurt.

My Eligard shots are in the backside up high.

My husband has gotten Lupron shots for many years. They are always in his buttocks and he doesn't complain of pain. During a shortage years ago, he had another drug injected into his abdomen, which did hurt.

I went through the same thing with Lupron being unavailable, and I had to have an Eligard shot. I heard about them putting them in the stomach, But the nurse that gives them to me, put them very close to where they gave the Lupron shot and as a result, it didn’t hurt at all.

Sounds like you had a screwup giving you the shot, Either that or they switched to the monthly Firmagon shot, which is really a problem for many people.
