Spinal steroid injection for lumbar herniated discs

Posted by briarrose @briarrose, Nov 15, 2023

I am 68 years young & just diagnosed with 4 herniated discs in my lumbar region of the spine. PT is helping only slightly with pain. Because of multiple health conditions pain medication is limited or out of the question. My pain management physician wants to do a spinal steroid injection in my lumbar area. Occasionally I get numbness in the front of my thighs. Sitting aggravates the condition.
With my panic disorder I am frightened of the procedure. I will be put to sleep for it. Any thoughts on this proposed spinal steroid injection?

I had it years ago - forget which leg - but I believe I had it for almost 9 months or so!
I remember being in work and walking on my toes due to the pain.
The only thing I did was first used the heating pad on my buttocks when I could....but then was told ice is better so I used ice packs even when in work. I was lucky with my co-workers, no one thought it was strange I was walking around with an ice pack tucked in my pants.
And, of course, there is always PT but I didn't even do that. And with the passage of time (a long time) it went away. Good luck to you.

I have my first injection this week, thank goodness! I've never had lumbar spine pain for this long in my life! It's basically been all summer. I am hoping it provides relief!

I'm having my first lumbar spine injection this week. I hope it provides pain relief for me and for you. Deep breathing helps me calm down and thinking of things or people I love helps with me with my anxiety. Good luck to you.
