Spinal Fusion L5-S1 didn't relieve neuropathy: Any success?
I have neuropathy in the bottom of my feet for years. The neurologist did a spinal fusion on the L5. S 1. It did not help. Has anyone had success with this surgery? If not, what did you do next to relieve the pain?
I do the normal with creams and gabapentin but little relief.

I had spinal fusion of L5-S1 with screws nine years ago. Like so many here, I did not get any relief. They classified it as "failed back surgery". How convenient. I had two MRI that did mention anything about spondylolisthesis. However, the orthopedic surgery ordered another one which, according to him, showed it. Did the first two get it wrong or was he looking for a chance to make a quick buck, You tell me.
I felt that way about my surgeon.
Before I ever operated on again I will look the surgeon in the eye and ask “ if it was your son or daughter would you recommend the surgery?” I want to see the expression on the face.
I had L5-S1 spondylolisthesis repair and the result is great!! I had 5 people recommend Dr. Schwender at Twin Cities Spine in April of this year. I did get polyneuropathy in the left leg to the foot because of the hip surgery on the Hani table done with Twin Cities Spine. Won't go to him again. Twin Cities Spine also released my L5 nerve on the left where it was trapped at the hip surgery. The doctor said it would take a year or more for the pain, stumbling, etc. to go away but it is getting better. Good luck.
I had spinal fusion L5-S1 and have loss of nerve firing in left foot and calf. Exercise is essential to build up strength. I use a vibrating plate every day on my left foot that activates some nerves and helps me walk several miles.
