sphenoid sinus mucocele after pituitary tumor removal

Posted by skp @skhollandmt, Mar 15 3:41pm

Hello,

Had my pituitary macroadenoma removed at Mayo, during my yearly follow up it was found I had developed a sphenoid sinus mucocele. Google is never good information haha! Wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what their follow up was. Scheduled for surgery in April ...
Thanks,
Steph

Yes, my ENT saw one on my first post op MRI. He said it was small and wouldn’t cause any problems. No need to do anything with it. Hope it all comes out perfectly for you!

@skhollandmt, I hope you saw the reply from @jasonl1012 who had a similar experience.

It's always scary to have something that is rare. I'm glad you are in good hands at Mayo and that surgery is an option.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately mine is growing still and they feel I'm at risk for things like meningitis, etc if I don't have it removed. I guess after a certain size they can be just about as destructive as the tumor on the pituitary was!
I hope yours stays small and you continue to do well!

Thanks for responding. Yes I did see Jasons comment. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one ....which is why I was reaching out because what I read is it's only about 1-2 percent of people that develop this type of post op problem after the pituitary tumor removal. Since mine won't stop growing in size I'll have surgery to remove it and hope it doesn't return!
It's really nice to be able to connect with others that have the same things happen.
