For Prostate Cancer what type of oncologist should one see?

Posted by chipe @chipe, Oct 4 11:18am

Hi, I lost the post where someone told me about a special kind of prostate oncologist. I was wondering if anyone knew the "title" of that type of oncologist. TIA

I’m not sure where a Mayo Clinic is in your area, but that would be an excellent choice as well.

They have top-notch doctors who can give you the right treatment

The best referral for a Doctor who is easy to work with is Russell Szmulewitz,

Here are well regarded ones. Had links but they got cut off pasting. You can look them up by referring to their locations.

At U of Chicago Russell Szmulewitz, MD - UChicago Medicine
Or at Northwestern David J VanderWeele : Physician Profile: Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University : Feinberg School of Medicine: Northwestern University

Contact Dr. Tim Kuzel with Northwestern Medicine. He practices out of Orland Park, IL He is one of the top PCa oncologists in his field in the Chicago area, teaches at the University and is a compassionate down to earth man.

Dr. Kuzel is responsible for putting together the plan and the team to save my life.

Tell him that Bob Mizek recommended him.

Here’s the link to Dr. Kuzel’s contact info: https://www.nm.org/doctors/1851325088/timothy-m-kuzel-md

Good luck and PM me with any questions.

I need to let everyone know where I get the names of doctors from.

Rick Davis who runs Ancan.org has the names of doctors all over the country who people have gone to, and who people like. Doctors who have bad dispositions or aren’t very helpful usually aren’t recommended. I contact him by email and he replies with the names of GU Oncologist in the areas I ask about.

It would be better for people to actually come to a meeting and ask him directly because you can also get advice about your cancer treatments. If you go to. Ancan.org you can sign up and you will get a weekly newsletter announcing meeting schedules (there’s also a full schedule at the website) filled with information about treatments that are new or studies that have just been released. I learn something new from almost every newsletter. I have learned a lot more coming to the meetings for years.

Ancan.org has been around for 15 years and has weekly advanced prostate cancer 2 hour meetings. New people come in and get recommendations, repeating people come in and ask for information and advice for current or future treatments.

There’s always two or three doctors at each meeting. One of them even runs the meetings every three weeks. They have a significant board of directors with top notch oncologists.

Something to consider if you have a new case of cancer or you’ve had it for a while and want some advice on treatment.
