Sore burning throat up high and both ears hurt

Hello, I was sick back in late Feb. Ended up with an ear and chest infection. I know because my ct scan showed in both lungs. Got antibiotics for the ear. Did another ct in 6 weeks and it was clear. My ear infection was gone but I continued to have ear fullness and discomfort. I started using steroid nasal spray and steroid inhaler to try and clear inflammation and ear discomfort. I had an lpr event twice in early March and thought that is why my ear hurts. Any back to the doctor in April, again no infection in either ear. In may I complained to my doctor of a sore throat, he looked and said post nasal drip. Gave me dexilant for a month. Went back in Jun and told him both ears hurt now. He looked, no infection. Said he's sending me to an ent. I did a ct of head and it showed left effusion and possible cholesteatoma. Nothing on the right side but it also hurts. It's now November and still waiting to see ent in Dec. Throat is now sore. Swallowing water is no problem. I tried some salty fries today and it burned. I forgot I went to see another doctor and she looked in my throat and said it was red. This ongoing ear pain and now sore throat is worrying. I have no swollen glands in neck or throat.

Hello @reggie09 Welcome to Connect. I normally don't follow the ENT group but I noticed you were new and started a discussion about issues you have been having all year long. And when someone has had problems for an extended period of time without any sort of diagnosis, this troubles me. Although we are not in any position to diagnose or give medical advice, as a former cancer patient who has gone through the gauntlet, I would suggest you find a larger medical center and forward your test results to them along with a request for help. No one should keep returning for help only to be faced with "Don't know / Not sure / Try this". You are certainly doing all you can as a patient.
I have found a simple statement to the doctor such as "Perhaps we will figure this out at the autopsy." seems to get them in gear and take you serious. I wish you well and I hope perhaps someone here has been down the same street as you, having some idea what is going on with all of your symptoms.

Thanks for your reply, my throat seems better now but my ear issues continue. I keep rinsing and spraying. I can pop my ears sometimes and it hurts. Like I mentioned the ct of my head only showed effusion on the left mastoid and possible cholesteatoma in the prussak space. I've had issues with this left ear before and the tympanomatry test is never normal. That doesn't explain the right ear. The doctors are all saying it's got fluid as well but not near as much as the left ear. I'm seeing the ent this Wed. Although I've had 3 family doctors telling me it's not cancer and the ct not showing anything in the nasophynx, I'm still concerned.

@reggie09 After watching a program on TV called "Medical Frontiers", a very under diagnosed condition is inflammation of the pharynx located below the nasal sinuses and above the throat. Have an ENT do a scope of your pharynx.

I'm going today, the burning in my throat is back. Just ate a slice of bread with butter on it. I can swallow ok but have some burning. Plus my ears are still an issue. No swollen glands yet

@reggie09 It would be wise to have the ENT do a scope of your pharynx. Most DRs overlook the pharynx. They concentrate on nasal sinuses, throat and ears. It certainly won't do harm.

Hello, I had an ent scope me. He said no lesions or masses and unremarkable. As far as my ears ago, I had sent him my history and he said it was a cronic issue and nothing he could do. I Challenged him, asking are tubes temporary and he responded yes. He said people complain so he doesn't like to do it. I know this is not normal. He stated no fluid in my ears but yet it's opaque. I had 3 family doctors already tell me there is

@reggie09 when a doctor says there is nothing they can do, the follow up response is “Then please refer me to someone or some clinic who/which can.”
You should, in my opinion, seek out and travel to a clinic that looks forward to the challenges of solutions to difficult medical issues. Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Houston, Johns Hopkins, to name a few. It may cost you some out of pocket expenses, but how much is your health and life worth? We must do what we must to live. You have something that isn’t normal. You know that. You need to be normal again.
