Solving Leaking Pouch Problem

Posted by harrison221 @harrison221, Jul 11, 2024

I use a Hollister 82711 pouch, a Coloplast Barrier Ring and Coloplast Barrier Skin Spray. I started to have problems with leakage at the bottom of my Stoma. The leakage was minor and did not seep outside the ring but would get under the edge of the ring and irritate the skin around the bottom edge of my Stoma. I am very active and work outside every day for several hours with the temperature around 95. My Stoma Nurse and I have figured out that excessive sweating is causing the problem. Maybe this post will help others.

I use a one piece disposal appliance and I change it 3 to 4 times a day. I think its one of the reasons I dont have a problem with my skin. I do use a hairdryer to heat appliance and dry skin. I have bad arthritis in my right hand and could not deal with emptying a bag. It takes me 5 to 7 minute to completely change my pouch and I have had good luck I really think my digestive system is causing me problems so I may have to see a gastro dr but thank you for all for input

I completely solved the problem by using a Hollister #7806 Barrier Ring and cutting it to about 2 1/2" Dia. I also use Hollister Stoma Paste on the bottom half of the ring. No more problems.
