@5830 welcome toMayo Clinic Connect. I have been diabetic for 51 years (I’m 69.) I’ve heard of Diabetes Insipidus, but not heard it referred to as “water diabetes”. There are so many types of diabetes with so many different labels. I had an endocrinologist at Mayo tell me that the main thing that matters is that “diabetes means too much blood sugar”. This is what causes the symptoms you describe of frequent urination and thirst. If left untreated it can lead to terrible complications. I do not know what SIADH is (and I dislike acronyms and abbreviations.) If the endocrinologists that you’ve seen haven’t explained these conditions to you, attended to your symptoms or suggested treatments perhaps you could find help by going to a Certified Diabetes Educator. What does your primary doctor have to say about these things? Maybe you could get a referral to a Certified Diabetes Educator?
Hello 5830-I have diabetes insipidus which is now called Arginine Vasopressin Disorder (AVPD).
I think the name change (weird) so as to not confuse it as any form of diabetes. I have it as a side effect of medication and I am thirsty all of the time. I hear you can take a diuretic (again, sounds like that does not make sense) to help, but I have not gone that route. I drink so much water and liquids it's nuts and I have done the 24 hours urine collection tests and produced 7L of urine. I am not familiar with SIADH syndrome. I am not sure I am helping here. The bed wetting would be really problematic...and for sure cause depressive mood...can you get a second opinion?
