Socks

What do people with Neuropathy wear for socks? I use to be able to wear any socks but now with Neuropathy any sock that touches the top of my foot where it bends at the ankle causes a burning feeling. I started wearing Dr Scholls diabetic socks last year and they worked great but now they burn my feet also. Has anyone out there found socks that don’t make your ankles/feet burn? I do not wear tight or restrictive socks, even really loose socks hurt. Thank you

Welcome @billandmary, I only have numbness with my neuropathy but also have lymphedema in my legs which I have to wear compression socks to control the leg swelling. I don't think you are alone with your symptoms though. There is another discussion that you might find helpful on the same topic.

I also wear a softer diabetic loose socks at night when I take the compression socks off. I've found that bamboo fiber socks are really soft and comfortable but might not work if you have a burning feeling for symptoms. I found some socks called Gooi that help. I can stand anything touching my toes. These are loose enough to help with that. But also keep my feet from being icy cold.

I don’t have a specific answer to the sock question, but I have a suggestion for lessening the burning. If you don’t already have this, ask your neurologist for some compounded pain cream. It is made at a compounding pharmacy. I get mine in the mail from Birmingham Al because that’s cheaper than my local compounding pharmacy.
It has lidocaine, gabapenten, amitriptylline and some anti inflammatory meds in it. If your neurologist isn’t familiar with it, you can find a compounding pharmacy and ask them what “recipe” they use. Different medications can be dropped or added. You have to pay out of pocket, but who cares at this point, right?
Hopefully it will help the burning.

Here is the label. It costs about $117 last time for two of these shipped. Lasts a long time.

I bought a brand called GOOI. They are loose at toe and stretchy around my fat legs.
