smells
a rotten or strange odor occurs randomly for few seconds; at first thought that it was food I was eating, but now it is occurring spontaneously at least evey hour when not around food. Is it my own breath? can't detect source or reason.

@lu1lu2 - Do you have seasonal allergies, or have you recently had a cold, flu, or choking/coughing spell? I used to get that problem when mucus or junk was caught up in my sinuses or tonsils.
If you suspect that might be the origin, you can try washing out your sinuses with a saline-only nasal spray or wash, then thoroughly blowing your nose. And gargling with salt water.
Next, have someone else smell your breath & see if they smell it. If so, you could have a decaying tooth, or an infection in your throat. Another possible cause is a stomach infection known as H. Pylori, which can be diagnosed by your doctor.
Finally, if you had Covid, some people report this as a post-Covid issue.
Do any of these sound possible for you?

Thank you soooo much for immediate reply! This is a miracle site and I recommend it to everyone I know. I will try all the possible remedies you mention and will definitely mention at next Dr. appt. HUGS!!
One other possibility — though rare — is a fungal sinus infection. Or for that matter a regular bacterial one. I’ve been dealing with a fungal sinus infection for almost two years (just recently diagnosed), and in the beginning I had the most vile smell in my nose. I hate to even say it, but it smelled like dog poop. This happened in the months after sinus surgery, so it’s also possible it was scabbing in my nose from that. Good luck! I know just how gross this can be 🤢.
It worked!! The saline spray, that is.... once in the a.m. then again in p.m. and no more funny odors. Can't thank you enough for your words of wisdom. Hugs to you!
