Siewert type 2 Gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma

Posted by pcbeach @pcbeach, Dec 6, 2025

I was first diagnosed on July 11, 2024 with Siewert type 2 Gastroesophageal Adenocarcinoma. I had a pet scan in Sept of the same year and it showed a left sided cervical node and a liver lesion.
The liver lesion was biopsied and was described as Amphicrine carcinoma, with an aggressive carcinoma component with Ki67> 90% with synaptophysin positivity (labeled as neuroendocrine carcinoma)
and an adenocarcinoma with mucinous features component. Pathology from the liver was eventually interpreted as non-small cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma favored.
The doctor at the Mayo Clinic told me it was a very rare cancer . Since then Ive done some research on it and found out it is exceptionally rare. I tried to find any article on it and found out that being so rare there is no case reports of esophagus cancer metastasizing to the liver. im doing good for now, have a scan on dec 10th.

thank you for listening to my rant

My husband just had esophageal cancer identified after a CT scan due to a car accident. It was biopsied and confirmed to be cancer. He then had a PET scan and it highlighted his lung and liver as well. We have not gotten a call back from Mayo, so we reached out to Baptist MD Anderson and have an appointment with them on 12/12/25. So my husband possibly has liver, lung and esophageal cancer. Don't know which spot was first. I am glad you are doing better.

@pcbeach, I added your discussion to the Neuroendocrine Tumors (NETS) support group as well https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/neuroendocrine-tumors-nets/

Mayo has good NETs specialists. For such a rare cancer, you are in good hands. Which Mayo location are you at?

How did your scans go last week? Did you learn what is next for you?

@colleenyoung, Not yet, we are now waiting for the biopsy of the liver. The doctor is more concerned about the liver since it is a larger mass. Also still withing for results to come back to identify the type of cancer so we have the correct treatment plan. The doctor said that hopefully early January he will have everything and start with treatment.
