It never helped me. I had left side chest pain that was indicative of diabetic neuropathy. GabaPentin was useless for that or any other nerve pain which might have been present. PreGabalin took care of the chest pain and a lot of the infernal overall itching that I put up with. It still causes the ED tho.
I was taking 3200 mg of gabapentin a day for almost 3 years and it impacted my memory severely. I’m trying to wean myself off and for my first time I’m finally flying into the Mayo Clinic to meet with a competent neurosurgeon. Vanderbilt’s operated twice Chattanooga is operated once and all I have is an auxiliary nerve that is compressed in my shoulder and nobody can seem to get it fixed. January 28, 2026. I am praying for a miracle when I get up to Phoenix to see the doctor for the first time from Dayton Tennessee.
@cleveland26 According to my doctor, that's the maximum dosage allowed, and I've been taking it for a few years now. Once it loses what little effectiveness it's having on the pain what am I supposed to do? As far as I know, there's nothing else out there that can offer any kind of relief.
@mrmacabre There is Aventyl, otherwise known as Nortriptyline, but it has side effects too. For me, it made my voice very hoarse and I had to go off of it. It might be another option for you though, if needed.

Do folks find that gabapentin is actually helping offset their pain?

Gabapentin caused too much dizziness!

@blowerk1216 In my case it just dulls the pain to a reasonable level, but the pain is always there.

2 Reactions@tessie63 I've been taking Nortriptyline, along with Duloxetine for depression for 10 years.
