Should I have a hip injection for a small tear in the gluteus minimus?

I have recently been MRI diagnosed with a tear in the gluteus minimus with some atrophy. I have had a injection in both the SI joint & piriformis muscle that didn't help. Now the new orthopedic doctor is suggesting an injection in the hip? Should I do that? Also I am scheduled for a ganglion impar by the pain management person. Should I do one, the other, none or both?

Has your doctor explained what kind of shot, and what, exactly, is it is to do to help you? If it's cortisone, it might do more harm than good. Please look closely and thoroughly into this.

Where is the ganglion and why does it need repair,by the way? Is it part of the gluteus minimus problem?

Has your doctor explained what kind of shot, and what, exactly, is it is to do to help you? If it's cortisone, it might do more harm than good. Please look closely and thoroughly into this.

Where is the ganglion and why does it need repair,by the way? Is it part of the gluteus minimus problem?

@uisge The ganglion impar is a bundle of nerves near the tailbone. With the muscle pain I also have rectal pain & tight perenium. This treats the ganglion impar nerves to settle that area down. I don't think it repairs anything just treats the nerves. I think it could be referred pain as well.
As far as the hip injection I'm sure it would be cortisone. What I don't understand is why docs would perscribe that if it would do more harm. I think with all of my injections they don't know if it will help but let's try it. The SI joint injection & the piriformis injection that didn't work were said to be diagnostic as well as theraputic but the theraputic didn't happen.

@phighty It would be good to know what the doctor proposes to inject, and where in the hip. If the problem is a tear, cortisone may tame the surrounding inflammation, but will not promote healing, and may even retard it. However, some doctors are using PRP (plasma rich protein) to promote healing with good results. Unfortunately, insurance coverage for this may be limited.

@sueinmn Thanks for the info. The hip shot would be cortisone. The doctor has so far not answered my question about a repair but it would be good to calm down pain. I might be able to sort things out better. So far I'm going ahead with the ganglion impar.
