Leoprolide (Lupron) shot monthly or removal of ovaries?

Posted by Rom828 @jgallagher04921, May 29, 2023

Anyone here have BC pre- m? I am 43, had double mastectomy. Am being told I have to have a shot in my ovaries every month for 5 years yet I have never heard of this before. I think I would rather have my ovaries removed vs having to endure this apt every month for 5 years...and I could still get preg.
Anyone have similar situation?

I’m not familiar with this shot but I had my ovaries removed after I completed chemo & Herceptin therapy. It was nothing it’s done laperscopic (sorry my spelling is terrible) still have foggy brain!! But it was very easy having them removed only a few days of rest afterwards! Menopause is gonna happen anyway if you have to take an estrogen blocker. Sucks but removing them reduces cancer recurrence!!

I also have the injections once a month along with an exemestane pill daily. I have pretty bad joint pain and sleepiness that’s almost debilitating. Does anyone else have these reactions? I am particularly wondering if there is any help for the tiredness.

I only had the injections fir 3 months, then I had my ovaries out. I've been on Exemestane for 3 months after being on Anastrozole and tamixifen.
I am experiencing extreme fatigue that hits me @1-2 pm like clock work. I eat goid and excersise @1 hour a day. Never less than 30 mins. My onc thinks it the Exemestane but I wanted som reassurance so my pcp agreed to give me a blood test. My tiredness effects my life as I'm too tired in the evenings to do anything. I feel so useless. Mornings I feel great. I have tried to take it at night and in morning. Same tiredness comes. If my blood work comes back that there's nothing else going on, I will know for sure it's the Exemestane. I think that will give me peace of mind and I'll just have to accept my new life. The tiredness hits me like a brick, like I've literally hit a wall. It comes on so fast and so hard makes me feel ill. It's weird. I wish I had advice for you, but I'm searching too. You are not alone.

I'm pre menopausal. Had my first Lupron shot on June 24th ( while I wait for surgery to remove my ovaries in Aug). This is supose to stop my hormones but I started my period a few days ago! My Dr is on vacation and NP said she has no idea why I started my period. Anyone have any experience w this?

Hi there. I had a similar experience. I got my period after the 1st lupron shot and was confused. My ONC said that it takes 2-3 months sometimes your body to be pushed into menopause and he was right. After the 2nd Lupron shot, I stopped getting my period
