Shockwave therapy for broken bones that aren’t healing.

Posted by gammyb @gammyb, Aug 16, 2023

Has anyone had shockwave therapy to help the healing process of broken bones? I have a Jones Fracture that I had surgery for in September 2022 that just isn’t healing. Doc recommended this therapy to speed up the healing and hopefully eliminate the need for more surgery. Unfortunately it’s not covered by insurance. I had my first treatment yesterday and it hurt like hell….! Two more to go.🥴 Has anyone had success with this treatment? Or no success?

Thanks for this interesting post. Hadn't heard of shock wave therapy. Orthopedic centers are hastening metatarsal stress fracture healing with the use of teriparatide. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.4137/CMED.S9663

This is very interesting. I’ve not heard of this but will definitely talk with my doctors about it.

I have not heard of shockwave treatment, but I have heard of electronic stimulation for non-healing or slow-healing bone breaks. In my case, I did not pursue this, but my doctor suggested it as a possibility. Beyond that, I know nothing about it.

A quick search found this: https://www.verywellhealth.com/electrical-stimulation-for-faster-bone-healing-2549331

There are other links as well.

Thank you. I’ll be sure to check this out. I have been using a bone stimulator for a few months that isn’t doing much healing either.
