Sex and Neuropathy

Posted by windsorchris @windsorchris, Jan 1, 2022

Hello, I had a very bad night after sex...legs throbbing, cramps etc..I was wondering if sex was to blame. I have not heard others report this .

It happens to me after a very active session. I feel numbness in the soles of my feet the next day, but not immediately after.

Sex, yes I remember that. It was great but ever since the Neuropathy sank in my little guy just kinda hangs there and he wouldn’t get hard if a 20 year old cheerleader came in naked. He does empty my bladder about every 30 minutes though.

Is male sexual performance often negatively affected by neuropathy?

When I was 59, I had first symptoms of sporadic neuropathy which occurred about the same as mild ED. I did did not know it was neuropathy at the time, and my PCP kind of shrugged off my neuropathy symptoms. Fast forward 3 years, both got worse. For the last 4 years. I have numbness only (no pain) in my feet/toes, and it is responding to treatment. No luck with the ED though.. Is there a cause and effect? Who knows.

What treatment are you getting that is helping with your numbness? I am not aware of anything that helps with this so I’m anxious to heat what you are doing that’s working. Thanks

I use Nortriptyline 25mg. It does not make the numbness disappear completely but I don't really notice it much anymore. I did recently have a full knee replacement and that trauma brought the numbness back. That was almost 3 months ago and it is subsiding again now.

You know, that was what I was on a few months ago and I had been using it since I got neuropathy about five years ago. It worked well for the pain but it didn’t seem to do anything for the pins and needles and the numbness. I weaned myself off this drug because of all its side effects but now I find the numbness and stiffness has intensified. I’m debating going back on it again to see if it will stop the numbness from increasing. I’m caught between a rock and a hard place. I hate the side effects. They include dry mouth, constipation and eventually affect a persons cognitive skills. The last one worries me the most. Thanks for replying. All the best!

Wow! I have zero side effects. Full disclosure, I never had pain, just numbness. I use Nortrilen which is an EU version of nortriptylinehydrochloride. I don't know if the US formulation has some other stuff in it.

Thank you for the info. I’m going to go back on the Nortriptyline just to see if I can improve somewhat over what I’m dealing with now and I will be sure to get back to you if I notice a difference. I have to try something because it is so much worse than I had before. Take care and all the best!
